Another school year ends…and while none of us love homework, studying for Spanish, or checking Esembler to make sure the assignments are all handed in…we lived through it and are ready for a much needed break. My kids had some big wins (and losses) this year…and all of these things help to shape them into the adults they will become.
Truman~
Tru hit third grade like a boy on fire…but quickly realized that this was way more work than he had put in in previous grades. While Math, Social studies and Science were very easy…Reading and Writing required him to really try and he didn’t like that much. When his teacher got them involved with Achieve 3000…he really found that Reading could be FUN! At one point he had the most points in the whole school for reading on Achieve. And he made honor roll all 4 quarters! He ran for Treasurer of his school and not only did he write and give his speech in front of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Graders, but he also got the most votes. He was on the Radio…made 2 travel soccer teams…was on the cover of the Sand soccer flyer and Tidewater Parent magazine and has generally been a joy to hang out with! Very proud of your accomplishments this year Tru! Way to go!
First day…
Last day…and With his new glasses! 🙂
Morgan~
Morgan had a big year as her last one in Middle School. She worked hard to finish at Blair with 8 High school credits and will attend Granby High School next year in the IB program. She initially was wait-listed for this program…which definitely was hard for her, but we were so glad that in the end it all worked out the way she wanted it to. She also maintained being on honor roll since 1st grade…which is an AMAZING accomplishment! We all know that she has the brains to go as far as she wants to! Her art work was chosen to be on the cover of the invitation to the Hermitage Museum Art fair for all the middle schools. She also tried out for her first travel soccer team and made it. But when things didn’t work out exactly the way she had anticipated…she finished her season then made a very mature decision to make a change. This showed us how well she can stick to something, but at the same time, she can make hard decisions and make changes to make her life better if need be. We are very proud of her and cannot wait to see how much she will enjoy high school!
