Today I wanted to talk about how proud I am of my NOT so little girl, Morgan! She is truly an amazing young Woman. She takes 5 High school courses (in 8th Grade), plays travel soccer, is an amazing writer, and Volunteers her extra time (of which there is very little) at St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children.
Before I decided to follow my dream and become a photographer…I was a Nurse at St. Mary’s. I worked there (sometimes part-time) for about 10 years…but when I was pregnant with Morgan, I was a full-time employee. Everyone took great care of me during my first pregnancy, as well as the kids. I really loved working there.
When Morgan started to consider doing volunteer work, her first choice was St. Mary’s. I was absolutely thrilled! The kids there could really benefit from having a kid their age around…and Morgan could really benefit from hanging out with them, too. I learned so many life lessons at St. Mary’s. I learned about how to better treat people with disabilities, how precious life and (even death) can be, and how much love we all have in our hearts. So, yes, I was thrilled! Suzanne Eason, the Rock Star of the Occupational Therapy Department, and a good friend from my old days at work made it happen for Morgan.
Morgan absolutely LOVES volunteering there. She helps to fix wheelchairs, uses her out of the box problem solving skills, and plays with the kids. And while she doesn’t love her khaki pants (they don’t fulfill her fashion status), she does enjoy hanging out with so many people who have literally known her since I was still carrying her around on the inside! It makes this Mama proud to see her giving her time to kids that could use a little Morgan cheer, but it mostly feel like she is just doing what she was meant to do…since she has literally been there volunteering there since before she could open her eyes. And I know that if her experience is anything like mine, she will get a lot more OUT of it, than she gives!! Proud of you Baby! 🙂
