Sunday is my First Baby’s 13th Birthday…there will be more on that later, but yesterday we took advantage of a school half day and some great advice and took her to have her ears double pierced. She had been asking for us to do this since she was about 10…but we stood firm that 13 was the age that we thought was good for the double pierce. Why? I have no idea…but it felt right to us. So after listening to some friends, doing some research, we decided that needle piercing would be the best route for Morgan. It is a much more sterlie procedure, less traumatic for the ear, and done by a professional. Plus she got a way cooler story to tell than “we went to Claire’s”.
Morgan was totally hardcore, and made her Mama proud! When she got in the car and I told her we were going to go get her ears pierced she was excited. When I told her we were going to a tattoo parlor and she was getting it done with needles, she only turned a shade whiter and only for a second. Once I explained what my friends had told me and my research turned up, she was completely on board.
We called Jay and told him we were on the way, and of course he said “I will meet you there!” Ryan was a great guy and showed Morgan her choices for earrings. We choose the sterling silver stud and then it was time to go. Morgan and I were the only ones allowed in the tiny room, but that was okay…Jay and Truman cheered her on from the lobby. First Ryan cleaned her ears, good. Then he made two dots with a marker. We all liked his placement, so he got all his tools together, told Morgan he was going to pierce both ears first and then put the earrings in, and then told her it was time. He used a long tong-like tool to hold the ear steady, it had a hole in the middle and that is where he went through with the needle from behind the ear. She said “Mom, hold my Hand,” but honestly, that girl didn’t even flinch. He got both of the ears pierced and then put the studs in and we were done. Simple! He told us to clean the ears with a salt water solution 3 times a day to take care of the piercing. Morgan’s ears were red for about 2 hours afterward, but then the redness went away and she never had any pain at all.
She is ready to go!
This is my absolute favorite! She looks so scared, but is statue-still and being Super brave! You are amazing Morgan and your Mother is SO PROUD of you!!! And look at the needle sticking out of her ear! Tough as nails is what you are!
Would I recommend this experience to others? Absolutely! I remember getting mine done with a staple gun and that HURT! Morgan’s experience was unique, fun and honestly one I don’t think she will ever forget! Thanks to Ryan, Will, Kim and Kathy! Happy almost birthday baby! We love you!
